A Community for Independent Medical Billing Agents

A Community for Independent Medical Billing Agents

Invitation: A Community for Independent Medical Billing Agents

I’m launching a Zoho Community space for small, private medical billing agents to share knowledge, strengthen professionalism, and help each other thrive.

Why I’m creating this

I keep hearing very different pricing for “full-service” billing. Some agents charge hourly, some take a percentage, some do flat monthly fees—and many of us are left guessing what’s truly fair.

My goal is to make this community a place where billing agents can:

  • confidently charge a fair and dignified fee

  • learn from each other’s real-world workflows and edge cases

  • raise the overall professional standard so physicians can trust the work

A second goal: Practical “levels” (optional)

It also seems like almost anyone can call themselves a billing agent, regardless of experience. That creates mistrust and hurts the reputation of good agents—often leading to underpricing, stress, and burnout.

Over time, I’d like this community to help define voluntary levels (Junior → Intermediate → Senior), based on measurable factors like:

  • years of experience

  • specialty complexity (family medicine vs specialty billing, etc.)

  • claim volumes and operational discipline

  • handling rejections, RAIs, manual reviews, enrollments, premiums

  • documentation habits, privacy/compliance awareness, and reliability

This wouldn’t be “gatekeeping.” It would be a helpful way to describe competency and set expectations—so clinics know what they’re paying for and agents can price with confidence.

Please contribute: Your ideas are needed

Reply to this post with any of the following:

  1. Pricing

  • How do you charge (percentage, hourly, flat monthly, hybrid)?

  • What’s included in “full-service” in your view?

  • What factors justify higher fees (specialty, volume, complexity, follow-up work, reporting, etc.)?

  1. Professional levels

  • What should define Junior vs Senior?

  • What skills or milestones matter most?

  • What should not be considered (to keep it fair)?

  1. Topics for the first month
What should we build first as shared resources? For example:

  • common rejection patterns and how to respond

  • enrollment/premiums rules

  • workflows for reconciliations, RA reviews, corrections, and resubmissions

  • templates: onboarding checklist, clinic intake questions, monthly report template

  • privacy/compliance and audit readiness

If you’re willing, introduce yourself (first name + region + general specialties/volume). No sensitive clinic or patient information, please.

Looking forward to building something practical, supportive, and professional—together.
